Humans of LBCC PT 2

Joe Ruzicka

“Home is just where I am at the time. I like to move around and travel to different places. I don’t like to be stuck in one spot, and I think it’s important to insert yourself in different environments.” Joe is a freshman in his first term here at LBCC. He came here from the suburbs of Chicago in an attempt to get a degree in business and transfer to OSU after 2 years. He is 18 years old and will turn 19 around Halloween time. If Joe was famous, it would be for being a CEO of a well-known business. His most prized possession is his cellphone. Surprise surprise. However, his hobbies include playing basketball, beer pong, and vlogging with his friends. Joe’s greatest challenge right now is maintaining a job and college at the same time, but he’s optimistic that it will get easier and he will grow as a person.

Joanne Welker (Left)

“As you get older, you get less hobbies, but the main thing I do is spread the word of Jesus.” Joanne is an 82 year old woman who claims to be a student of the bible. She offers the word of Christ to people pacing by and started this about 7 or 8 years ago here at Linn Benton. She was actually the first person to do this at LBCC, now there’s many people who switch places with her throughout the day. Joanne and her family originated from Texas and her most prized possession is life. She says that due to her age, her body just says no to lots of things she wants to do, and so her greatest challenge right now is surviving. She lives with her daughter and her daughter’s dog who is a loving companion that resulted in her arms through her husband’s death. Obviously not as a replacement, but as a new companion to celebrate his life.
