Humans of LBCC PT 2

Joe Ruzicka

“Home is just where I am at the time. I like to move around and travel to different places. I don’t like to be stuck in one spot, and I think it’s important to insert yourself in different environments.” Joe is a freshman in his first term here at LBCC. He came here from the suburbs of Chicago in an attempt to get a degree in business and transfer to OSU after 2 years. He is 18 years old and will turn 19 around Halloween time. If Joe was famous, it would be for being a CEO of a well-known business. His most prized possession is his cellphone. Surprise surprise. However, his hobbies include playing basketball, beer pong, and vlogging with his friends. Joe’s greatest challenge right now is maintaining a job and college at the same time, but he’s optimistic that it will get easier and he will grow as a person.

Joanne Welker (Left)

“As you get older, you get less hobbies, but the main thing I do is spread the word of Jesus.” Joanne is an 82 year old woman who claims to be a student of the bible. She offers the word of Christ to people pacing by and started this about 7 or 8 years ago here at Linn Benton. She was actually the first person to do this at LBCC, now there’s many people who switch places with her throughout the day. Joanne and her family originated from Texas and her most prized possession is life. She says that due to her age, her body just says no to lots of things she wants to do, and so her greatest challenge right now is surviving. She lives with her daughter and her daughter’s dog who is a loving companion that resulted in her arms through her husband’s death. Obviously not as a replacement, but as a new companion to celebrate his life.

Week 1 Forum

Topic 1: About me-- I'm just your regular 18 year old kid. There's not much that's unique about me. I love to play and watch sports, I'm a frequent viewer of good movies, I listen to a lot of music, especially J.Cole. I took this class because I'm a journalism major and it was the first course in that line of study.

Topic 2: Goals-- My three goals in this class are pretty simple: Get all my work done on time, make a few new friends, and continue to educate myself on all types of journalism and learn as much as I can.

Topic 3: Humans of LBCC photos-- My "Humans of LBCC" assignment was relatively easy. The first person I sho and interviewed is actually my roommate, so it was easy to get his life story and take his picture. The second was a very nice young man working in construction in this school, and he was ready o take pictures and answer all questions which I greatly appreciated.

I felt satisfied with my work and thought it was a good piece to publish. While approaching my victims I would take pictures first and ask questions later. The victims were very easy to work with although I'm sure they would rather be working on what they were supposed to be doing. The final product turned out well and if I had to do anything different, I would probably rent a camera and shoot photos with that rather than my phone. My favorite part about the assignment was getting to know the subjects better.

Humans of LBCC

Hugo Gonzalez
   Hugo Gonzalez

“Just gettin’ to the top. That’s my greatest challenge right now. A goal of mine is to be financially stable to the point where if I want something, I can have it without having to worry. I want to own a business, there’s a lot of money in that and I think that’s an area of my expertise.”

Hugo Gonzalez is a 19 year old landscaper working on construction here at LBCC. If he was famous, he would be on the big screen in your nearest Regal theater acting in a Tarantino movie.

His family originates from Jalisco, Mexico and with his life right now, he’s just working trying to get where he wants to be. His hobbies include: Basketball, watching movies, and occasionally playing the trumpet. Much like me, he actually tore his ACL and meniscus while playing football. However, mine was in basketball. His most prized possession is his brand new iPhone 11 pro max. Hugo is a friendly young man who was very accepting of me pestering him with my camera.

Brenden Ertle

“I want to be a GM of a sports organization. I know a lot of people say that’s the toughest job in sports due to the fact that you rarely see your family and if your team isn’t winning games, most of the blame is put on you, but that’s the kind of challenge I’m ready for and I think it would be very fun and exciting.”
Brenden Ertle is a 19 year old freshman here at LBCC, with lots of goals and high aspirations. Although he grew up in the Portland metropolitan area, his family currently lives in Minnesota. He is a new media communications major, but surprisingly his least favorite class is art. He claims it’s because he expected to draw and instead he’s getting lectured. If he was famous, obviously it would be for being a GM of a famous sports organization. Brenden’s most prized artifact is what most 19 year olds say; their iPhone, but also he bought a house in Albany a few weeks ago and says that is quickly becoming his most prideful and most prized possession.
